My fav facebook friend Suzanne inspired me to look at my early-morning run in a different “light” this morning. As I ran in the pitch black of night, I realized what a neat feeling it is to run without any light; to feel invisible. Very cool!!
I never thought of this either: in the summer, I will see maybe 8-10 people outside during an 8 mile run at 5 a.m. But in the winter, I never see anyone. I guess I am the only soul bold/stupid/crazy enough to go outside in the dark. But I highly recommend it to anyone.

I had a great 13-mile long run with a friend Scott this morning. We didn’t really pay much attention to our pace….we just told some good stories and had a lot of laughs. It was a good “male bonding” kind of run…..almost like a night out drinking, but only without the “night” and the “drinking”.

I ventured outside this morning because the temp was a balmy 32 degrees and there was nothing wet falling out of the sky….for once. However, when I got on the road I realized that there was a glazy look to the pavement. Yes, ice, ice baby!! Ice everywhere. So what did I do but keep running….for 8 more miles. It’s a miracle that I didn’t fall and/or injure myself. I just kept the pace very slow and looked for dry spots to get traction, although that was difficult since it was dark outside. Maybe I should have stuck to the treadmill…….

Even worse than snow is ice….which is what they have in Indiana, where we are visiting my family for Christmas. They had 2 inches of ice fall yesterday, which made for a slow run this morning. I was able to find a few areas with decent traction, but most of my path would have been better suited to wearing ice skates. I miss my treadmill!!
